Ann Harvey Days

This annual event runs this year from July 24th thru 29th, 2015. A 4-day festival commemorating and celebrating the famous Harvey Story and the heroism of Ann Harvey and her Newfoundland’ dog, Hairyman who helped the family rescue 163 people from the sinking brig, Despatch, in 1828 and another 25 from the Rankin in 1838.

During this event, visitors can experience craftworks and demonstrations by local artisans, book readings of Ann and Seamus by local Harvey descendants, guided tours and walks on the Harvey Trail with actual Newfoundland Dogs, dinner theatre productions performed by local residents, demonstrations of how traditional foods are prepared and even an opportunity to taste these delicious foods or purchase a meal at our Hairyman’s Safe Haven Cafe.

Be prepared to revisit the 1800’s as our locals really dress the part. Get involved with folks of all ages in various fun heritage events such as the Amazing Race, the Despatch Survivor Contest and the Harvey Boat Race and of course, dance the night away to the entertainment of our fine local musicians.
